“Prevention is the best tool to eliminate harassment in the workplace.”

With an estimated 75% of harassment incidents unreported, there’s a chance it could be happening at your organization, however in today’s environment victims don’t know how or don’t feel comfortable reporting it.

Bevoco is an online resource to report unwanted behaviors that might make a person uncomfortable, including harassment, bullying, discrimination, retaliation or sexual advances. Whatever the behavior, it’s important to know that we can and should report it and additionally provide real-time statistics on any conflicts that are happening within your organization.

Harassment

According to a Marketplace-Edison Research Poll in 2018, twenty-one per cent of Americans say they have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.

In a press release by the EEOC there has been a 50 per cent increase in 2018 in suits challenging sexual harassment over fiscal year 2017.

Bullying

Research has shown that almost 75% of employees surveyed had been affected by workplace bullying, whether as a target or a witness.

Discrimination

According to the EEOC If you believe that you have been treated unfavourably at work because of your race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information, you can file a charge of Discrimination. Legal charges could cost the organization thousands of dollars.

“Employers are encouraged to take appropriate steps to prevent and correct unlawful harassment. They should clearly communicate to employees that unwelcome harassing conduct will not be tolerated.

They can do this by establishing an effective complaint or grievance process, providing anti-harassment training to their managers and employees, and taking immediate and appropriate action when an employee complains. Employers should strive to create an environment in which employees feel free to raise concerns and are confident that those concerns will be addressed “

Training

Bevoco provides on-line training for each employee to better understand what legally constitutes inappropriate behaviour. Employees must pass a test to certify that they fully understand and will abide by company policies. Companies can also require their vendors to be part of the system. “Our training modules are compliant with new CA law – SB1343, which requires employers to provide sexual harassment prevention training every two years to both supervisory and non-supervisory employees.”

The EEOC guidance states that an employer can avoid liability only if it can prove that: 1) it reasonably tried to prevent and promptly correct the harassing behaviour; and 2) the employee unreasonably failed to take advantage of any preventive or corrective opportunities provided by the employer.

Prevention is the best tool to eliminate harassment in the workplace. Employers should clearly communicate to employees that unwelcome harassing conduct will not be tolerated. They can do this by establishing an effective complaint or grievance process, providing anti-harassment training to their managers and employees, and taking immediate and appropriate action when an employee complains.

Communicate

The EEOC recommends victims first tell the harasser directly that the conduct is unwelcome and should be stopped. For many victims, this can be intimidating and difficult. Bevoco helps to simplify the process by helping the victim craft a professional communication and notify the harasser through the platform. Communications within the platform are securely stored and can be used as evidence if the harassment continues. An employee can also report cases as an innocent bystander or as a witness to inappropriate behavior at work.

Reporting & Documenting

Bevoco makes the reporting process easy convenient and private. It’s always Your Voice, Your Choice, with you deciding who is involved and when.

When a new case is created within the platform, Bevoco takes victims on a step-by-step process to gather the necessary information to properly document the case, including uploading evidence like images, pdfs, audio files, or videos related to the harassment. Users have the option to review their case before they complete it. Then they’re given options to either store the information for future use, share in the information directly with the harasser, or escalate the incident and share it with Human Resources. By guiding the victims through a detailed recording process, Bevoco helps to reduce time and effort if the case needs to be investigated in the future.
